Totally agree. There is a broad line between the cost and the value of a sports scholarship. Though the dollar amount remains the same, the value is decided by the recipient and his/her coaches and mentors.
The Dexter Manley case was one egregious example. I’d be curious what percentage of the football factory team members cannot read at an 8th grade level. My guess is the number would shock me. This is why I advocate for a legitimate minor league. Might teach the players a little humility too. I know there are players who academically excel. Guess what, they’d still play college ball, because they desire the education.
