In the last several years I have read confident predictions from climate change scammers that global warming would:

Result in more violent storms (tornadoes and hurricanes) due to increased energy in the atmosphere.

Result in fewer violent storms - due to less temperature differential across the atmosphere and between the atmosphere & ocean.

In other words yes, the scammers want it both ways - if there is anything other than complete steady-state behavior, any anomaly, any deviation from the mean will be immediately pounced upon as "proof" of the effects of global warming.

Of course expectation of adherence to the mean is meaningless. ;-) Particularly in something as volatile and subject to so many influences and complex interactions. What might be scientifically interesting is a long term study of the mean, total numbers, and standard deviation. I suspect such research has already been conducted. However, the results cannot be twisted to support the global warming "message" from the scammers, so the results are quietly ignored.

AGW is what’s technically called a “non-falsifiable theory,” meaning that any plausible outcome can be (and often is) -attributed to it. Part of the purpose of a scientific theory is to predict future results. Since AGW predicts all possible results, it’s useless as -science.
