“The teen also claims that Walmart managers attempt to cut costs by reducing full-time associates to part-time workers, something that the behemoth retailer has been accused of in the past.”
There is no claim in this, it happens I went to work for Walmart upon retiring from the military for about 6 months in 1995. I worked four sections and was the leading sales associate for the store working sporting goods, hardware, automotive, toys, and I was training cashiers. I was not an assistant manager.
When I was interviewed, and they asked me about expected salary, I set a number and they agreed to it based upon a monthly schedule. They informed me they paid on an hourly scale at that level but they would make the adjustments to get to the number we decided upon. That was successful until after the Christmas holiday run when they stgarted allowing me to change my schedule to cover the hours, personally. A new assistant manager came into my section, and that was stopped so they were shorting me of the correct pay level.
When the customer run slowed, they cut everyone in the store in hours. When I brought it to their attention, I was told everyone was paid at the hourly scale and Walmart was allowed to cut those hours to make their costs. I mentioned they had made an agreement with me on the overall salary, they retorted take us to court. I shortly afterwards put in my resignation, and after a whole lot of posturing, they gave me a copy of the closing documentation that they would rehire me. I haven’t talked to them since but to sell them back their stock I had at cost as the price to service it went up higher than the profit from it after I quit so they could get it back as you couldn’t sell it to anyone else.
They pay the minimum wage of the lowest state they have stores in no matter what the cost of living is at the location. And they punish people they get into it with with cut hours or removal of all hours until the person has to quit in self defense but do not fire them. This way they don’t have to pay unemployment insurance.
They are as crooked as they can be and don’t care. They’ll use you like a bad prostitute and then blame you for something stupid and punish you until you have to leave. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg with how they treat the immediate area of their competition.

WM considers anyone who gets at least 32 hours of work full time. Most other employers consider 40 hours of work as full time.
Personally, this young man’s actions would not cause me to hesitate to offer him a job. Kid has a sense of humor and a good idea about how to treat others with respect. Nothing to dislike about that.
You have to get all wage agreements in writing. There is no way a Walmart would have put anything like what you describe in writing. I dont doubt they said it...just that they would never confirm it.
