Eulogies are not to be done at Catholic Funeral Masses. Speeches of any kind, as a general rule, are not part of the Liturgy.

I'm guessing these people were not real every- sunday -church goers if they didn't know there were no eulogies allowed at the funeral. eulogies are for the wake.. Its a church service, a rite, not a free for all in the Catholic Church. Sometimes Catholics do it Rite!- pun intended
