What do these comments in #67 and #68 even mean? Can’t make sense of what you’re talking about.

It was the 9-7 tie with Den & Balt

Den 9-7 ... 7-5 conference
Balt 9-7 ... 7-5 conference.

Calculate common games. 12 conf games. Don’t count the head-to-head game between Den-BA. Leaves 11.
Den 7-4
Balt 6-5

2 of the 11 are not common games.
DEN was 0-2 in those games. Conf uncommon.
BA was 2-0 in those games. Conf uncommon.

Therefore, common games records were
Den 7-2
BA 4-5.

Denver has the common games tiebreaker with BA which matters in the 3-way tie Ba-Miami-Den.

Now that Den lost its 8th game, this ain’t gonna matter

Not sure what 9-7 means? Is that theoretical final record if they won out? They are 6-8 so not sure if that was what it was supposed to mean.

That was 67. For 68, the tie Miami-Den would be:
Mia 8-8, 6-6 conference
Den 8-8, 6-6.

They have 4 common opponents.
Oak , Cin, Jets, Hous.

Their records in the 5 games vs those teams:
Miami 3-2
Den 3-2

So common games is tied. The next tiebreaker is SOV. Strength of victory.

None of the 7 win teams beats Den at SOV, so they are still in the conversation if none of the 7 win teams gets to 9 wins. Ba, Mi, Tn, Indy, Cleve

http://www.espn.com/nfl/standings/_/view/playoff

Den has .475 SOV. as of now. Changes with each game

Thanks for the explanation. I will admit most of the tie breaker scenarios make my mind numb. I’ll check out the link to hopefully make some sense of possible scenarios.

Yes, I did that Sat morn, to verify that the game was big for Den. They had a chance at 9-7.

8-8 isn’t going to do it. INDY or Tenn will beat them out. or somebody else.

8-8, 7-5 conference beats Den at 8-8 6-6

Indy & Tn both got 8th win. They meet in week 17.

So that eliminates Den and stops talk about Browns

Miami now has 3 non-conf losses. Which is more than BA TN Indy vs have. Therefore,in a tie, they will have fewer conference losses than the others.

At 9-7, they get all tiebreakers, including 3-way, vs. The other teams.

One exception. INDY-Mia 2-way tie goes to Indy. Head-to-head victory.

Miami still alive

At 10-6, 8-4 conf ... Balt has tie vs. TN and vs. Indy.
Also at 9-7, 7-5.

Except if 9th win by Indy is vs. TN (conf win), then
Indy is also 9-7, 7-5.

Goes to common games.
TN
Buff
Cinn
Oak

Indy 4-1
Balt 4-1
So it goes to SOV. Indy has big lead .464 to .410

BALT in big trouble if they lose to Chargers !!!

Pats call time out with 3 min. left, they must force a punt and score a TD

Who can figure out the Colts? Get shut out by Jacksonville and now have beaten the Cowboys and Texans back-to-back.

Seahawks lost, yet still have a hold on a wildcard at 9-7.
If they beat AZ, they are 9-7, 8-4 conf.
The competitors cannot beat that conf record.

If they beat KC, they finish 9-7, 7-5 conf. But their SOV is strengthened enough to beat Skins.

How about 8-8, 7-5?
Tie with Skins. Common games.
Dal, GB, AZ, Car
Skins 4-1
Sea 4-1
Goes to SOV, which is about equal.

Keep an eye on this one.

Sea beat both Dal & Car head-to-head

I’ll be pissed if Seattle gets in by a tie breaker after cheating on that field goal block last week.
