Correct. And before Perot, Kennedy and Reagan were attempts. Kennedy was a failed vessel due to his personal problems. Reagan achieved his primary mission on target -- ending the Cold War with an American victory without firing a shot -- but he could take it no farther, and there was no one who could replace him on short notice.
As good as Kennedy may seem from this side of the decades, he was ole Joe’s boy and there is nothing to convince me he would have been any different in this day than any other Dem. If he had lived, who knows, but he was an elite son of a Nazi sympathizer made rich through nefarious means.
