I was responding more to the amorphous idea of showing "respect" to the disrespectful.
Ignoring is a separate topic.
Being told to be nice to the un-nice makes me grumpy.
I agree that ignoration is the best policy, for the most part.
Some people do need to be addressed at times (i.e. Jack Black, etc.).
