My grandmother had a million back issues that I hovered while visiting her (for lack of anything else to do) and my mom had tons of the Condensed Books. I looked it up just now and was surprised to see that they still have domestic subscriptions of 2.6

What a timely article! Why, just this morning, I discovered that someone had gotten into our house overnight, and unloaded and reloaded our dishwasher! In 16 years of marriage, that has happened to us about 3 times! My husband wanted to accuse the dog, but without opposable thumbs, I highly doubt that! (Besides, he would have just licked the dishes clean, and left them in the sink).
Except now they know.

When I think of a dog and burglars, I remember the scene in Ferris Bueller where Mr. Rooney sticks his head into the dog door and is face to face with the growling, drooling Rottweiler.

Remove any bottom dresser drawer and hide things on the floor under the dresser and put the drawer back. Easy access and lots of space.

I used to buy a lot of old furniture to refinish. Although it never happened to me I talked with guys who found envelopes of money taped under drawers and old metal cabinets and the like. Folks used to have the door jamb and fence post safe.
An old VCR gutted out, looks like it’s functional but, not anything anyone would try to pawn.

Did her books get donated to a library?
We used to sort donated books and send on to the prison system. They would again check the books before going into the prison library.
One of the prisons contacted us because one of the donated books had $100 bill in it. They wanted to return it to the person who donated the book.
My Dad decided to take $25K cash out of his bank account and bring it home. He hates banks with a passion. I asked him where are you going to hide this? He ended up stuffing it in a shoe box and sticking it behind the big HVAC intake vent in his hallway. He unscrewed it and slid it right in there and screwed everything back in place. He kept it there for years and I finally asked him what happens if the house catches fire and it gets burned up?
He then bought a big fire resistant gun safe and bolted it to the floor in one of his bedroom closets he uses for storage.
My Mom told us kids if something happens to her to look in every envelope we encounter, and especially behind photos on the wall. She hides them in the frames. She had $200 worth of gift certificates a couple of years ago in an envelope in her purse and forgot herself and tossed it cleaning out her purse.
