humbug (hŭmˈbŭgˌ)►
n. Something intended to deceive; a hoax or fraud.
n. A person who claims to be other than what he or she is; an impostor.
n. Nonsense; rubbish.
By any objective standard belief in Santa Claus and promulgating a belief in Santa Claus IS humbug.
You couldn’t be more wrong. I see the magic of Christmas is lost on you but no one has the right to destroy that belief for a child. It is a right of passage in our society.
Too many people are willing to sacrifice the innocence of childhood but it actually serves a very important purpose in the development of a healthy adult. I never told my children there was or wasn’t a Santa because I would never lie to them. They absorb the idea from the people around them and I left them to believe, with presents appearing Christmas morning. No lie, no humbug just the magic of love and of being cherished. Your family your choice, don’t make it for other people’s children.
