Mack Brown is expected to return as head coach of North Carolina after he and the school have reached an agreement on a contract, reports 247Sports.com. According to the report, an announcement is expected as soon as Tuesday.
The 67-year-old Brown is currently an analyst at ESPN. Brown was originally hired at UNC in 1988 and led the Tar Heels to three 10-win seasons and three bowl victories before being hired away by Texas in 1998.

UNC is a basketball school, they will never attract a big-name coach there when football plays second fiddle.
I agree but he’ll smooth things over for a couple years
while they are looking for a long range coach. JMO.
LOL, like Kansas State with Bill Snyder?
Here’s their history. As you say they aren’t a
football school. But with the right person they
hang around for a few years.
Record Since 1970: 271-206-6 (.561)
They’ve had some good years in football, but they don’t seem to sustain it over a long period of time.
He was a big time cheater his first time at UNC; the bagman stories are notorious.
Plus Leach nixed the idea.
From ESPN’s Joel Anderson:
I spoke to Mike Leach last night and he said he isn’t interested in returning to Texas Tech. “They didnt pay me last time. And Im happy here. Asked to elaborate, he said: “They havent paid me for 2009 and we won 9 games that year. And they havent won 9 games since.” https://t.co/q26RCKGNBt

Sounds more like a negotiating ploy.
Leach is king at Wazzu, whereas too much bad blood at TTU. Plus Wazzu fans/alumni aren’t unreasonably fanatical about their football like TTU. Leach has the perfect set-up at Wazzu as long as he churns out 8 and 9 win seasons and can compete for division crowns.
The AD at TTU played at Kansas State, so Venables’ name has been mentioned as has Aranda from LSU and Wells for Utah State.
Rumor around here (Nashville) is Gene Chizek will be Mack’s DC and coach in waiting, taking over 2-3 years later when Mack’s recruits start coming in.
Us folks over in Wolfpack nation are very happy that UNCheat has made such a fine choice.
I thought Gene Chizek retired from coaching after a stint at as DC at UNC.
Fellow alumnus, I see. :-)
Indeed. I detest those cheating bastids. ;)
67? I can’t wait to see the “GET OFF MY LAWN” defensive sets.
Maybe they can hire Western Kentucky’s former coach who was just hosed yesterday too?
Absolutely!
The funniest comment I have seen on this change is “UNC has gone from Red Bull to prune juice.”
LOL!
“Turned” them around quickly if I recall. Actually started the cheating that they just got caught for.
Now that is hilarious!
He will win a National Championship...if Colt doesn’t get hurt.
