People become emotionally attached to the idea that they were right, that they were never wrong, and as a consequence they double down.>

Sounds similar to this:

"The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire. They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him."--Rev. 16:8-9

Yes, definitely.

Consider that we are seeing people who really believe good is evil and evil is good ... so when judgment is being poured out on them what will they do? Will, for instance, apostate “Christians” cast aside the homosexuals whose perversions they’ve championed or will they redouble because they already think what they’re doing by being tolerant/nice is being repentant?

Those who never knew much of anything about the Lord are NOT in danger from a Romans 1:18-32 process, a proverbial Taoist monk in the middle of Asia is not at risk, but to be an American, Canadian, or Brit who has known about the Gospel but has turned away from it? Watch out!

We are seeing people give every evidence that this is going on in their lives now ... how will they repent even when every jot, every line, of Revelation is exploding in the world around them?
