Why don't some people ever see the key words in an article or the poster's comment below? I said we are conservatives.
If you want to stay in the west I would say Alaska.
We need your votes in Az! Come help us put it back in shape again!
That’s what I told hubby....Let’s move (from TX) to AZ, to help put AZ back in shape, make it Red, again.
He’s not a huge fan of the hot desert summers, tho :-(
Actually I don't know.
Come to Texas!
Wife and I plan on moving to Idaho in a couple years. We are in Orange county, CA as well. Of course, we both have family there. Firearm laws seem rather good.
Great part of the state (TX).
How old are you? Make sure your medical plan will cover you, and stay close enough to bigger towns is you think you will need hospitalization any time in the future. We were in Bandon, loved it, but our nearest medical was in Clackamas and way too far to drive for routine care. Also, how desperately do you need to see, or take care of, family members in the future?
Thank you. Tell me more please. What is the closet city or large town? Are there suburban homes or condos?
If you don’t mind cold winters, take a look at Indiana. The state house has a super majority of republicans. They just booted out a sitting democratic senator.
Makes sense to me.:)
I have friends in Mesquite, NV and they love it there. They moved from IL to NV and are very active in their “senior” community.
Some people move to southern Washington (near the border with Oregon) because Washington has no state income tax, and Oregon has no sales tax (they do their shopping in Oregon).
Idaho could still be saved if enough conservatives move there. I would vote for Coeur d’Alene over anywhere south of Lewiston. However, if you really want to move out into the county there are still many old sawmill towns like Kooskia, Kamiah, Oldtown, Grangeville, along the Clearwater River that are very pretty and inexpensive. These towns are full of the salt of the earth types.
Thank you for the invite. Yes, AZ is one of our considerations. However, southern AZ is too damn hot for me, but we're looking at Prescott or Flagstaff. And thanks for reading the article and our initial comments.
Can't believe some are telling us not to move to their state with our CA cooties after clearly stating we are conservatives trying to escape. Guess some people should walk away from their computers or cut back the drinks...haha.
Im still trapped here in the belly of the Beast in LaLaLand but one day will be in your shoes. Spend a lot of time on the city-data location forums and get a feel for the people and the problems. Remember EVERY PLACE HAS PROBLEMS. You wont find a place without negatives.
Know which negatives are personal deal breakers for you guys. Then choose the few places with the most positives for you guys personally, and go spend a week in each place. Look at houses, and do some of the things you would do if you lived there. This will give you new deal breakers and maybe get rid of others.
Examples of deal breakers changing after checking a place out: Didnt think it was a place to grow old, but the elderly I met are really happy because.... Or, thought the cold winters would kill us but its really not that bad...
Good luck.
Im concerned also about water. All of the West seems scarily dry. I mean, in the future. What if property loses value when one of the resources you actually need to survive dries up? Literally?
Wow. You went Full Retard on him.
You need to step back, re-read the comment and apologize.
Property taxes in most of San Antonio are 3% compared to 1% for California (this is offset by no income tax and low sales tax, low gasoline price). So a $300,000 home has $9,000/year taxes ($750/month). A $500,000 home has $15,000/year taxes ($1,250/month).
But a strategy is to find the enclaves of small incorporated cities that have low property tax rates (like Shavano Park, Hollywood Park, Hill Country Village, Balcony Heights, etc.) on the edge of San Antonio.
My Grandpa ran the mercantile store in Moscow when it was a mill town in the 30s through 50s. Most of the Californians fleeing and moving to Idaho are conservative, thank God. The whole state is full of really good, down to earth people, very polite and courteous. Everybody will talk your ear off if you want to chat.
...West Virginia!
...Its got West in the name. Its all the west I need!
