I think the issues re media and 1st amendment are tricky.

Would agree that:

1. There needs to be SOME mechanism that to SOME degree holds the media personnel--particularly say the top 10-20% watched/read/listened to--to a high standard of truth or at least vetted sources.

2. There needs to be some consequences built in to the system. I'd prefer to see a panel of citizens--somewhat like an informal jury but with the capacity to level formal consequences--to review case. I guess that would evolve to be as heavy weighted as our current court system, though.

3. IF journalists knowingly give aid and support to the enemy of our Republic, tack their rears to the side of the barn and let the buzzards deal with them. They deserve every punishment they could get.

4. I just think the related issues, criteria, levels of proof etc. are very tricky in this field. Ripe for abuse on both sides. Hard to legislate morality in that arena. Worth trying. Probably essential to try. But not easy.

5. The kind of brazen lies we listen to routinely currently against Trump are treasonous. They deserve stiff punishment. They also deserve public and private shunning of the perps. I'd be tempted to spit near their feet if I saw them on the sidewalk. I'd certainly find words to let them know how low a scum I considered them to be . . . something akin to lobotomized slug poop.

Agreed on all points JM.

Shared this topic with hubby after I posted and we batted it around a while too.

Crux of it is, A1 is needed for our Republic. And in a right world we will protect it as diligently as A2. But our world is askew and a lot of the fault lays at the feet of an uneducated electorate as well. Q is a service to teach We The People to do our homework.

That said, I wholeheartedly agree that the top lying scum of media need to be tarred and feathered at minimum. Hung drawn and quartered is what I’d personally like for some select. But, I’ll moderate in the defense of our Constitution and just say the treasonous need to be proven guilty and hung.

The media have benefitted from some very favorable supreme court interpretations over the last 36, 500 days (last 100 years). Could be there are other ways of interpreting the first amendment. What they are spewing now deserves no protection at all.

I would think you could get some of the media on distributing Classified information.
