Number one with me is the Hammer Horror Film Collection. Anything with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, two extremely fine actors who could and did play anything. No one today who can hold a candle to them.

I actually prefer the original to the remake.

I could not read The Shining when I was alone at home, this was around 1979. I would literally start to think I saw something out of the corner of my eye, then Id turn and look andnothing was there. I could only read the book if my husband was in the house.
I decided to read the book again in the early 90s, but after about the first couple of hundred pages I had to stop. The book scared me too much. LOL

There is a cheesy horror film out here, can’t remember the name. Where guys get bitten, kind of like a were wolf. But instead if turning into a wolf they turn into women on a full moon. It was low budget and bizarre.

I converted to Catholicism in 1993, and the movie scares me lessbecause I KNOW no demon can defeat the Power of Jesus Christ.
Did you assume that the demon spirit was winning because it was that strong?
I assumed the Devil(or one of his minions) seemed to get the better of the two priest because the old priest was, well old and fighting the demon taxed his Failing strength.
The younger priest was overcome(initially) by the guilt he laboured under for the assumed lack of care for his mom.(Dimi, why you do this to meeee!)
The Diabolic are very clever in finding and using our human frailties against us. Satan knows that God is the stronger and will eventually win in the final battle but his hatred of Mankind and his spite of God leads him to "take down' as many souls with his eventual downfall. Good horror stories are best when they forgo the obvious "B" movies plots that rely on "Gotcha" or what I called "Boogah! Boogah!" scene where the killer jumps from a hidden position while the background music strikes the screening tones to scare the viewer.

"Original Halloween. Hands down."
I'd seen Halloween several times over the years on TV. Good horror flic.
Aside from being a great movie if you get the full DVD version as I did not so long ago you'll learn to appreciate Jamie Lee Curtis' contributions to the uncut film at least if you're a guy - can't speak for the gals.
Trust me. ;-)

This one transcends the genre. It’s an excellent movie; not merely a gratuitous horror flick. It doesn’t disappoint.

Anything with Barbara Steisand in it tops my list of horror flicks.

I agree with you about The Ex having no surprises.
Two that were better at that, IMO, were Rosemary’s Baby and The Omen.

Nothing has ever scared me as much as “The Blob” back when I was a kid. Couldn’t sit on a toilet for weeks afterward, had to hit the hole standing up.

I agree. The Exorcist is #1There really isn't much competition when it comes to horror films - it's one of the few with any real substance from the standpoint of the writing and acting.
The slasher genre seems like mindless garbage created for a middle school target audience, and the classic Lugosi/Karloff type horror films of the 30's and 40's are entertaining but cheesy.
