Publius, as bad as it is, I don't think things are anywhere near as "Hot" (yet) as they were in the years immediately prior to the War of American Independence or the Civil War.
Hence, I do not believe your scenario will develop in 2019. Maybe in POTUS' second term.
My "Parade of horrors" scenario also involves the RATS actively engaging with China as a fifth column in an intelligence war/low-intensity hot war against America.

The only thing that makes me not so sure this isn’t as bad as before the civil war is the number of mass murders and violent episodes. I always wondered, reading about the civil war and the time leading up to it how the people back then could have been so violent and barbaric, with John Browns uprising, the Kansas Massacre, the caning in Congress, everything else, but the last number of years it’s all been happening again.
