I have felt safer driving on the German Autobahns than driving in New Jersey, where I was living at the time. On the road, the Germans are rule followers. I have never seen anyone pass on the right there. The wrecks there, when they do happen, are messy. I made my flight home on time because I took the wrong exit at an interchange and took the loooong way to Düsseldorf Flughafen. If I hadn’t, I would have gotten stuck behind a huge pileup.

My Uncle died in an accident on the Autobahn. He was my Father’s youngest Brother.

Daddy and him died the same day. My Father at age 90 on a life flight helicopter from internal bleeding. They were 20 years apart in age.

“I have never seen anyone pass on the right there.”

I hear people mention this. I assume that means on the shoulder, because I don’t get what’s wrong with going into the lane to the right to pass if the car in front of me is going too slow.
