I’ve been conversing on DECnet, Usenet and the internet for 34 years.
Unless you were on Arpanet, to me, you’re a plebe.

Newbie! I was on the Arpanet in summer of 1973. That summer I was doing robotics research at Caltech but headed for grad school at MIT. I was reading Marvin Minsky's MIT email, because no one at MIT bothered with a password at the time. (I still feel guilty because I may have accidentally deleted a message.)

I am honored by your reply, sir. Also a bit jealous, I must admit.

I miss Digital Equipment Corporation’s world wide ethernet network. It was a different time in a much more controlled and intelligent environment. I still maintain many friends from those days. VAXnotes still hasn’t been duplicated in any decent form.
