It's interesting but for 12 years, my next door neighbor was a Berber Muslim. He looked like Jean-Paul Belmondo although totally Berber, spoke French and Arabic with a strong French accent and despised Arabs because they had overtaken the Berbers and imposed a harsh islam on them and brought evil and violence to his region of North Africa. His name was Salem and he always called God “God” (not Allah) and always asked me to pray when my husband and I were in deep trouble about six years ago. His children are all Christian.
Just an interesting anecdote.
That prof had been an actor/director ( came from an acting/manager family ) on Broadway and other regional theatres, before he became a prof. I had him for quite a few other classes as well as being in the Summer Stock troop he started and ran.
Fascinating anecdote re your neighbor! :-)
The National Geographic used to publish some very interesting children's books. One such has pictures of people from all over the world. This was before the days of heightened PCism and is not only fascinating, but very helpful when discussing what different peoples look like.
Re what people with Portuguese ancestry look like, mine is anecdotal as well, as I know quite a few people who do and know what they and their kiddos look like.
