Did anyone mention the possibility of shingles? Symptoms can appear before the rash.
I would ask the ENT about that and ask if he thinks an anti-Zoster medicine and steroids would be appropriate. I would ask ASAP - like first thing in the am..

Herpesvirus attacks the V Cranial Nerve and can affect the 3,7, and 8 that go thru the middle ear. I would consider that a valid differential diagnosis for the loss of hearing in the middle ear. Balance, eye coordination and intestinal upset can be collateral symptoms.
