I remember a buddy of mine bought a VW bug for 75 bucks back in the 1970s. What I remember about riding in Bugs is how frigging cold they were in the Winter.

A relative was riding in one with a friend in the dead of winter and he asked if it would be warmer with the windows down.

My parents bought one, 1963 +/- a model year, as the second/commute car.
They got the plastic overlay (to prevent fogging) for at least the rear window, as well as the optional gas heater.
They traded up to the '66 basic Mustang with after-market a/c.
