The people who believe this are small in number, but some of them have very outsized voices because they live in the insular echo chambers of journalism, education, HR departments of large corporations, and entertainment. 34 Senate seats are up for election.
Dems need to roll 2.
WITHOUT losing ANY.
(The odds on that are extremely slim to none)
Dems have 25 seats (2 ind. who vote dem)
Pubs have 9
Of the 9 Pub seats,
8 are in states that Trump won,
only one is in a state won by Hillary.
Of the 25 Dem seats,
10 are in states that Trump won.
5 of those, Trump won by double digits.
Just by numbers/stats/odds alone,
if both sides lost 1/3 of their seats.
The Pubs would lose 3
The Dems would lose 8
That equals a 5 seat pick up for the Pubs.
The “dream” for me, is the Pubs picking up 9 seats,
giving them 60 in the Senate.
As far as the House,
I think that could swing 10 seats either way.
But that is more “hunch” than looking at numbers or demographics.
