It’s Monday here too. Schedules are confused because yesterday was Veterans’ Day. No banks, no library, no U.S. Mail, but the colleges are open, and the Wall Street Journal came.
I’m thinking of taking some people for haircuts this morning.
Well, now. Back from the laundromat. But when I first got in there, I had to stop to answer some text messages. Yesterday, Lablady was all “oh-the-snow-is-so-beautiful!” and “Sitting-by-the-fire-watching-the-snow-fall” and this morning the text was basically: MOM! I’ve never driven in snow before and I’m scared to death!
Mom: Take a deep breath. Both hands on the wheel. Take it slow and stop when you have to.
After she made it work: My hands are still shaking! I didn’t have the right washer fluid and it froze on the windshield!
Mom: Take a deep breath. Hands in your lap. Its OK. You made it. It will be easier next time.
I was lucky that I grew up in a town where snow was a given in winter, and the snow-plows were attached to the city dump trucks which were filled with coal dust. On the tops of those piles of coal dust were men with shovels. We lived at the top of a hill, and the only way home was up. I learned to drive in that stuff at the age of 13.
She’ll get the hang of it by the next snowfall.
