A Mansfield Bar is that dangly down bit in the back of a truck to keep a car from going under the truck and shearing off the top of the passenger compartment, and the tops of the passengers.

Ah. Thanks. I’ve seen those but had no idea what they were called.
The lack of one of those actually was responsible for my younger sister, who hasn’t spoken to me in nearly six years, to call me. There was an accident on Tuesday morning on highway 95 between Searchlight and the Junction, where a car took out the two rear axles on a semi. It evidently reminded her of the car accident I was in many years ago. No matter. She called, and that’s what counts.

I thought those were for the driver to know when to stop when backing up to the delivery point.
