Back when men were men.
I coached small college football years ago...I was at the NCAA Convention and had the opportunity to sit at the same table with coach Bryant one lunch...I and 8 others sat there just listening to whatever he said...Two things struck me as very true and have stayed with me through all the years..
1. Defense IS the game...You can run 50 plays on offense... Screw up 47 of them, but run 3 perfect and score 21 points.
You can run 50 plays on defense and run 47 of them perfect, but screw up only 3 and lose 21 points....
2. Most think the game is 60 minutes long, but each play actually only lasts 10-15 seconds...The rest of the time is trotting back to huddle and waiting to snap the ball...The actual playing time is only about 15-18 minutes...If your guys can’t go full speed for those 10-15 seconds and rest the other time, you ain’t coaching conditioning very well...
