Your cousin is right- mostly. The reason the FBI got involved in the Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill affair was Hill alleged that some of it happened on Federal property. And technically, yes, the FBI has to be invited into a local investigation. However, this “investigation” is actually more like a background check. How they differ I don’t know. But, again you’re right. With no reported crime to investigate, who knows how they’ll turn the magic phrases to have the jurisdiction to investigate.
The guys on the committee seem to think it’s just a matter of the FBI asking a bunch of questions and then telling the committee who lied. That’s not how it works. The feebs ask a bunch of questions, record the answers and give that to the committee. As they are so fond of saying, the FBI doesn’t reach conclusions. They just gather info.

When I heard this cow flop flake news of f_i investigation this afternoon I got that screaming angry. Ranting enough that hubby had to ask if I was pissed at him. Musta not been being coherent. At any rate, hubby decided to go help do some chores for a friend who’s not able. Our stereo is now blasting Ted Nugent and I’ve working it off yanking weeds and hauling 10 gallon plant pots across the property.
