Iraq's US-led administration this morning transferred sovereignty to the interim Iraqi government in a surprise move that came two days ahead of the scheduled June 30 handover date. The transfer of power took place in a ceremony in Baghdad's heavily guarded green zone, where Paul Bremer, the outgoing US governor, signed over control of the country - and its escalating security troubles - to the interim prime minister, Ayad Allawi.
