A new jet could fly from Beijing to New York in two hours

A new hypersonic plane could rival Superman for the fastest thing in the sky. A team of researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences just announced that when they tested a scaled-down model of their new hypersonic plane in a wind tunnel it got up to speeds of Mach 7, or 5,300 miles per hour. That’s way past Mach 5, which NASA defines as five times faster than the speed of sound, which would be about 3,800 mph at sea level.

The researchers published their results in the Chinese journal Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy. The plane was developed for the Chinese military, but could be used for passengers and could revolutionize travel. As author Cui Kai wrote: “It will take only a couple of hours to travel from Beijing to New York at hypersonic speed.”

According to Popular Science, the Key Laboratory of High Temperature Gas Dynamics, where Kai works, has another hypersonic breakthrough coming soon—a wind tunnel that can produce speeds of up to Mach 36, which will reportedly begin operations in 2020. If a plane could actually make it up to a speed of Mach 36 it could fly from China to California in just 14 minutes.

Commercial aircraft are of a size, dimension and speed capability that barely create market viability.
Faster means exponential ticket price rise.
Concorde worked, it just wasn’t economical nor an efficient people mover.

At speeds that fast Dr. Ford could get molested by the wind blowing through her dress!!!!

Are you supporting aero-rape???

“Apparently China has a higher average IQ than most other countries...”

Yes. From what I’ve seen first hand, they’re brilliant, but they seemed to have snuffed out any sense of imagination. However, once they obtain a method to develop something, they can do an outstanding job be it clone it or develop something exactly like it.

For example, let’s say an alleged rapist President wants to leak missile technology to China in exchange for money ... the Chinese, more than likely, would have had a tough time coming up with such technology ... however, once they have details on how to make something, they excel at reproducing and making it better for their purposes. That’s why they now have ICBMs pointed at us and are looking to make it to the moon within the next decade!!!

Donald, is that you?

Fagen's masterpiece...and one of the first all-digital recordings by Roger Nichols, the nuclear engineer responsible for all SD albums.

Sonically, considered "audiophile" quality...especially the MOFI vinyl and the 24-bit Hi-Rez digital file

Hey, that thing can hit a grand total of 2 mph, without a load.

I believe East Asians (China, Viet Nam, Taiwan, Korea, and especially Japan) are supposed to have the highest regional median IQ, something in the neighborhood of 115-120.

The first ones will be military of course; the civilian models come after the USA is nuked into surrender by weapons there is no defense against.

This article is mostly bull sierra, at Mach 36 we would be not just orbital speed but interplanetary speeds. We would leave the earth. If even possible for an aircraft (it is not) the fuel burn would be incredible ( think Saturn Five). The only thing about Mach 36 that would be interesting is to find out how fast titanium will melt (It would be just a few seconds)

The article is crap.

One of my favorite albums.

So glad my Mom played their albums when I was a little kid in the 70s. Turned me onto jazz in a big way.
