Doesn’t citizenship require fluency in English?


Not if you’re born here (or Puerto Rico). Good citizenship, yes—but again, P.R. is a unique exception, their government and educations system operate in Spanish. When we acquired P.R. in 1898, it was too small to be considered a viable nation. Since the 50s there are loads of independent states that are smaller and less developed/educated than P.R. We should have granted them independence, but likely the Cold War got in the way.

That’s a cultural change that needs to happen asap.

Slap it down hard. If a person can’t be bothered to speak and write in English, gtfo.
