MONTGOMERY, La. Officer Kirt Ricks III of the Montgomery Police Department died Sept. 7 as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic collision.
Ricks, 24, lost control of his 2006 Ford Crown Victoria patrol vehicle and overcorrected into oncoming traffic, where he struck another vehicle.
Neither Ricks nor the other driver, 65-year-old Gary W. Pinder, were wearing seatbealts at the time of the collision. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Ricks is the 33rd law enforcement officer to lose his life in a traffic-related incident in 2018.
Seatbelts are your friend.
Montgomery is a very small and poor town in north central Louisiana. It is on the western border of Grant Parish.
Regardless of the way this officer died, wearing a blue shirt is a mighty dangerous occupation especially these days.
God rest his soul. And the man in the other vehicle.
Better Headline: “Elderly man killed by negligent law enforcement officer”
I wonder how many Tickets He had passed out to others for Failure to use a Restraint Device while operating or riding in a Motor Vehicle.
2006 Crown Vic, a 12 year old Unit. Good grief even Rental Cars arent that old. And you know that CV was only driven to the Gas Station and Church. I wonder if the Airbags even worked ? Of course if the Seatbelt isnt doing its job the Airbags are just about useless.
723 population. No money to buy a lot of equipment.
I suspect may have been the only town police officer.
a 12 year old patrol car? and how did he lose control?
