Viewers don’t like always having to pull up Wikipedia while they’re watching to figure out what they’re worked up about in 1990.
Golden Girls has that problem too but not as bad. And at least it was funny.

At least “Laugh In” in the 1960s was that good deal funnier and not always topical, even though it certainly had it’s liberal leanings.
