I prefer to think he was manipulated and then buttressed by the M. Socialist Media. (Remember Larry King?)
My preferred thought, too. However, there were hints at the time that he, too, was playing an assigned role.
His reasons for getting out, and his reason for getting back in, were not what he claimed they were. Who he was working for remains unknown, but the result of what he did was that we got Clinton instead of Bush, and Bush went on to remake the federal government far more than Bush had. It was corrupt and globalist under Bush, but under Clinton, its takeover was accelerated, and made many degrees more evil.
