What about presenting lies, that they know are lies, as “news”?
And then there’s the leaks/CLAS stuff they posted as articles. That there will bring a lot of punishment sooner or later.
We need a concept in this country that there is jounalism and there is advocacy disguised as journalism but in reality is just party propaganda. Journalism (the reporting of the facts of a given event in order to inform) should always be fully protected. Advocacy is opinion, and that also is protected as free speech, but not necessarily treated the same. It can be considered a part of a party that is subject to donation rules; it might not be entitled to the deference that Sullivan v NY Times gave to journalists in libel cases, they should be subject to conspiracy when they leak classified information, etc.
As I have said many times here at home and on FR, these people should thank whatever god they pray to that I am not President because I would kick them out of the WH press room. That facility is a public courtesy to news journalists; if someone who is a political propaganda hack wants to accuse me of being a mass murderer, a child molester, a drunkard or drug addict, sex pervert - they have the freedom of speech to say that - just not to have the integrity of a WH posting to add credibility to their lies.
I would tell NYT, WaPo, CNN, etc. that if you wish to send journalists up here they are welcome, but the tax payers are not required to pay for facilities for you to spread your lying propaganda from the WH.
