I think you're right. I remember Kook-Aid dropped the saccharine and put The Monkees in a series of commercials bragging about that.

Not saccharine--cyclomates (sp?). That was what both Funny Face and Sugar Free Kool Aid used as a sweetener.

Cyclomates were banned in the late 60s and both FF and SFKA bit the dust. I think later they found out they were harmless, but they refused to lift the ban anyway.
