The family or McCain probably chose it, not the reader. Usually that is how it is done.

I agree. Not like he “laid” down his life in the manner referenced by the scripture verse. Noname either died from cancer or he was taken out for criminal behavior. Not exactly sacrificial.

Regardless, considering the specific scripture was the totality of LG’s eulogy, it almost seemed like it referenced something besides McStain. Perhaps Q post 2019 “We will gladly end our lives to ensure he lives.”
