If you plot out the recent fires you can see the course they lay on. California Statewide Fire Map
Three in a row.
I didn't look at any earlier years, but they're at the link.
I ran into this as well along the way which shows the recent fires are in a Tier 2-3 level.
Pick the map and it will bring up a large map you can zoom in and out on. 
I may need better fire maps.
