Yes, when someone has a terminal illness of just about any kind, they start to “actively die” a few days to a few weeks before they actually die. They stop eating, drinking, often they can’t swallow, they stop speaking, blood starts pooling in their back and back of legs, and they are usually in a natural or morphine-induced coma.
I’m sure McCain was actively dying for several weeks, that’s why his nasty and almost daily anti-Trump rants finally stopped.
