A sponsor announced on Friday that it has ended its partnership with NASCAR driver Conor Daly after it was reported that his father used racially insensitive language during an interview in the early 1980s.
Lilly Diabetes pulled its sponsorship from Conor’s No. 6 car in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity race, citing his father’s alleged use of the N-word 35 years ago, reported Fox News.
Derek Daly, a retired Indy 500 and Formula One driver, was fired days earlier from his role as WISH-TV’s Racing Analyst due to the controversy.
In a statement, the elder Daly admitted to using the word, but denied its connotation.
“I was a foreign driver now in America, driving for an American team, with an American crew, and with an American sponsor – and that if things did not go well, the only ‘”n” in the wood pile’ would be me,” Derek Daly wrote, saying that the expression was common in his native Ireland and didn’t carry the same racist connotation.

I guess we’re all in deep doo doo because it’s highly likely that some distant 21 generation removed relative said a racist remark- Guess we should just all resign from our jobs immediately as a result?
He should do a genealogy research on each and every member of the Lilly Group. Someone surely owned slaves or was in the KKK. The originator was Dr. Lilly, who fought on the Union side but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have have an ancestor or relative or close friend who bedded a slave. Hey, they started this game. Daly should finish it.

Col. Eli Lilly is spinning in his grave over what has become of the once respectable company he founded. I once worked for Lilly and watched as the HR and PR departments were taken over by the LGBTQ nazis.

I remember my grandfather, a small town mayor in Georgia during the 50’s, telling me “ Remember all Blacks aren’t Nixxers and all Nixxers aren’t Black”. This was from a man that during the depression had ALL the local clergy over Sunday afternoon for dinner to discuss who needed help in town, and my grandmother always had a glass of milk and a peanut butter sandwich for ANYONE hungry during the depression. And the KKK weren’t allowed into the town. His philosophy was that they were all poor together. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a deacon of the church. A man of character and principal.
Here’s the story as it unfolded -
So last week Bob Lamey, a longtime Indianapolis Colts game caller retired suddenly. Local news dug in and discovered he used the “n-word” (gasp) in a private discussion with some other Colts employees while retelling of an interview from back in the 80s where somebody used the “n-word”. This upset some snowflakes in the office and they threatened to turn it into a major case so he resigned/retired.
The Colts later come out and condemn his use of the word.
Wish-TV digs in further and finds the radio interview - in the 80s - where he said “”I responded by explaining that I was a foreign driver now in America, driving for an American team, with an American crew, and with an American sponsor – and that if things did not go well, the only ‘n-word in the wood pile’ would be me.”
WishTV promptly condemns Derek Daly and announces they will no longer work with him (for a 30+ year old remark not used in a racist context)
And the whole city goes bonkers.

To clarify -
Bob Lamey makes private discussion about somebody using the N-word in an interview he made in the 80s in a non-racist context and is forced to retire. But nobody makes it public - he just retires suddenly.
Local news stations figure out he used the n-word in a story.
Colts condemn Bob Lamey.
WishTV says the interview was with Derek Daly (back in the 80s) and they condemn Derek Daly and fire him.
Derek Daly responds he said the word in an interview back in the 80s but never meant it as a slur and, as a new immigrant at the time, didn’t realize it’s loaded connotation. He also denies that the interview was with Bob Lamey. WishTV doesn’t care.
Question: How many Americans expect to be taken to task for something somebody else did thirty-five years ago?
Answer: Damn few.
