I understand where you’re coming from. You don’t want your Q Anon threads pulled.
What I do not understand are these seemingly new super secret unpublished “FR rules.” I’ve been on Free Republic since 1998. I have been a regular contributor to Freepathons for that entire time. In fact, I started a PayPal account just so I could contribute to Free Republic. I’ve had interactions with JimRob in the past.
You asked me once, very politely, not to post direct links to 8chan, and I understood and complied. When an HTML hotlink is created in FR, the URL of linking page is passed along to the target page, so that target page knows where the person came from. If JimRob doesn’t want Free Republic’s URL in the activity logs of 8chan, I understand that and will respect it.
For the very same reason of being able to track the page where someone came from is why 8chan also forbids hot links in their posts. Their method was to add spaces to the URL, making the user cut and paste the link into a browser, thus breaking the ‘chain’ of what previous page the user was at. Now, the 8chan board automatically removes hotlinks from non-8chan URLs, so the spaces are no longer necessary.
So I did the same thing, listing a crippled URL to the 8chan qresearch catalog page. The user would have to cut and paste the URL, fix the errors, then paste the results in a new browser tab. No link to Free Republic.
I can understand why JimRob wouldn’t want direct links to individual ‘breads’, what with the antisemitism, racism, and the ‘thank you baker’ nudity found in those threads. But if a crippled link to the catalog page which contains none of that garbage causes such a stir, then these double secret FR rules are too convoluted for me to follow.
I will gracefully bow out of the Q Anon thread, and continue to enjoy the rest of Free Republic, where the rules are at least a little more clear cut.
You see, for the rest of Free Republic, there is a list of sites that can only be excerpted, or cannot be linked to at all. (Getty Images come to mind.)
The banned list is found at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1111944/posts
Curiously, I cannot find 8chan on the list. Perhaps the moderators or JimRob can add 8chan to the list so that we all are clear on the rules.
In the meantime, I’ll take my Q browsing elsewhere.
As a kid I could never make my yo-yo come back. I always had to roll it back up. Come back yo-yo, come back.
I have tried the link to the page of banned sites before but I didn’t get anywhere, because the OP was posted in 2004 and then the thread itself has 777 posts - I was afraid I would have to read most of those posts to find anything and I won’t remember. I also note that the “Alex Jones” ban seems to be word-of-mouth too. It is understandably frustrating.
