Treason, under criminal law, is the only crime defined in the US constitution. It is also word for word reproduced in US Code.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.

An attempted overthrow of the government is Sedition.

I prefer to view this as mere labels, but if/when it gets down to brass tacks, the labels do matter.
