Stephen Pinker's book The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined shows that societal violence has continuously declined over the past thousands of years, except for occasional "blips" such as world wars. He posits that the main reason for this has been the increasing outsourcing of violence to governmental authorities. In general, people no longer beat up others who have trespassed against them. They have the government do it for them, through the legal system.

This depends on people trusting the government to do the right thing. We are now learning that government does the right thing a lot less often than we thought.

If Q is right and Trump prevails, the tide will change. Pray.

"Most people want to be able to subdue and/or kill other human beings which disturb their daily lives, but they do not want to have to cope with the moral and religious issues which such an overt act on their part might raise. Therefore, they assign the dirty work to others (including their own children) so as to keep the blood off their hands. They rave about the humane treatment of animals and then sit down to a delicious hamburger from a whitewashed slaughterhouse down the street and out of sight. But even more hypocritical, they pay taxes to finance a professional association of hit men collectively called politicians, and then complain about corruption in government." This is so true. With no police, the neighborhood takes care of itself - no crime, with what little there is receiving summary punishment. Pour l'encourager les autres. When the police come, people no longer stick together to face a threat. It's outsourced. Crime comes, police do nothing. I'm not even sure why we have cops anymore. Isn't there something about it being unconstitutional to maintain a standing army? What are the cops if not that?
