Attorney General Jeff Sessions Appoints Geoffrey S. Berman As Interim United States Attorney

‘Attorney General Jeff Sessions today announced the appointment of Geoffrey S. Berman as Interim United States Attorney pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 546, which provides that “the Attorney General may appoint a United States Attorney for the district in which the office of United States Attorney is vacant.” This appointment will take effect on January 5, 2018.’

and after letting his 120 days near expire, the judges made him permanent.. sounds like a Trump play..

There are at least two USA's confirmed "that way." Bypass the do-nothing Senate! Both cases I know of are politically "hot," and it's great that Trump has total hands off those appointments.

That is the most amazing thing - Sessions nominates the prosecutor and when his term is about to expire, the Court approves him unanimously, and now he's in place until the Senate approves a Trump appointee. Totally missed this before; Chuck Schumer must have churned!

Mr. Berman was appointed interim United States attorney in January, and his 120-day term was due to expire next week. With no one yet nominated by President Trump for the Southern District position, the judges acted to fill it with Mr. Berman. Under federal law, he will now serve until the Senate confirms a nominee by President Trump, whose administration has been slow to fill many posts in the executive and judicial branches.
