I've used the subsequent scene with the "good senator" as an example of how the satanic cabal pulls this nation's strings. If you remember, Corleone's men drug the senator, kill a young girl, toss them both in a bungalo and take pictures of the horrific/bloody scene and use the now-very cooperative senator to suit their own desires. Just like Denny Hastert rose to such a high position of power, not because the former h.s. teacher had great skills in politics/business/finance, but because he had a history known to the same shadowy group that used that information to suit their own desires.

Hidden secrets that desire to remain hidden repreent a powerful tool to those who know them, or in the case of the good senator, created them in the first place.
