Keep in mind that immunity has to go through the entire DOJ chain of command and the IRS as well. It would be almost impossible for a high-profile person to be given immunity without it becoming well known.
A lot of wrong stuff leaked as a certainty isn’t completely made up. No doubt various strategies and proposals get discussed in the DOJ, and even these preliminary discussions are leaked. What the ‘sources’ don’t know is what the bosses finally decide.
