Melissa Hodgman Named Associate Director in SEC Enforcement Division

Washington D.C., Oct. 14, 2016 —
The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that Melissa Hodgman has been named Associate Director in the SEC’s Enforcement Division. Ms. Hodgman succeeds Stephen L. Cohen, who left the SEC in June.

Ms. Hodgman began working in the Enforcement Division in 2008 as a staff attorney. She joined the Market Abuse Unit in 2010 and was promoted to Assistant Director in 2012.

Ms. Hodgman has investigated or supervised dozens of enforcement recommendations spanning a variety of misconduct, including:

PS: I have no idea how someone at SEC can halt an FBI investigation....

Thank you for the post. I just got done reading about the start of the FISA application. It was first submitted October 2016. According to your info, that’s when Hodgman was named Associate Director in SEC Enforcement.

This morning it just seems ironic to me that during the highest levels of unemployment our nation has experienced, these people can create new jobs and promotions on an as needed basis.

Thanks Greg. yes, I don't think that part was ever in contention. The question is does the SEC have investigative jurisdiction over foundations such as the Clinton Foundation? the thread on Reddit claims that is not the case. So I'm still looking for proof that she was in a position to influence the investigation. Not to say even if her role is not in the chain, she still may be able to influence other organizations due to her position, but that would be even harder to prove.
