I have heard of people putting the legs of the bed in cans of oil. But they can drop from the ceiling when they get desperate.

I think the idea is to get the bed bugs to travel through the minefield, i.e. layer upon layer of applied bug spray. That way, even if they bite you when you’re sleeping, they’re absorbed so much bug spray from dragging their bellies over the sprayed surfaces that they die before they can incubate and lay eggs creating even more bed bugs. When confronted with an impassable barrier, like a pool of oil, they’ll just go into hibernation, which they can do for 9 months or more.
