Also all the Indian political elite were UK-educated and Fabian socialists. So by having such leading luminaries managing the national economy for 50-60 years any economic advances from decolonization were going to be strangled at birth! In recent years that type of socialist thinking has not been as strong as it once was consequently India has taken off economically like a shot out of a cannon.

My impression is that there were none. Everyone thought decolonization would make the Brits poor and their colonies rich. As it turns out, the Brits continued doing pretty well, despite the huge toll taken by WWI and WWII expenditures and manpower losses. Whereas India went straight to the basement among the economies of the world, alongside Communist China, on a per capita basis. The probably with South Asians collectively is bad political judgment. Great people individually, but the scum appears to rise to the top of their political establishments. We joke about our politicians being corrupt and incompetent, but we probably have municipal dogcatchers who could do a better job than the bums currently ruling India.
