Want would 2000 years do to the fragility of a corpse? I would think there would be not much left, not even bones.
The hot, dry atmosphere of the desert, with virtually no moisture keeps bacteria from forming that would otherwise decompose human tissue.
If there were no metal remains and they think these were soldiers, then the probably would not be high status ones or some ornamental weapons or decorations on weapons should probably have survived. That, or they did not follow the old Egyptian beliefs regarding life after death. Foreigners??? I suppose they will be able to examine the bones for DNA, mineral content, and other signs of origin and nationality.
