Massachusetts police officer killed after attacked with rock, shot with own gun, officials say

A Massachusetts police officer described as a “great family man and officer” died Sunday after a man attacked him with a rock, then took the cop's gun and shot him in the head and chest, officials said.

Weymouth police officer Michael Chesna, 42, was killed after he sustained "life threatening" injuries in the shooting just before 8 a.m., officials. Another woman in her home was also shot and killed when the suspect, Emmanuel Lopes, fired the gun three more times while escaping responding officers.

“Officer Chesna was an army veteran. In fact, I was speaking with his mom this morning and she told me she joined the military to help open the doors to get on this job [as a police officer],” Weymouth Police Chief Richard Grimes said in a news conference.

Massachusetts is a very Liberal State.As a retired Police Officer I was always afraid of losing my weapon in a scuffle therfore I advise all officers to be careful and the hell with wrestling matches. If a criminal is willing to fight you he is willing to kill you.

This is such a tragedy! This man's aunt and I work at the same college. I spoke to her daughter this afternoon and she told me her cousin had wanted to be a police office since his early twenties. He could not get hired, even though he had a degree in Criminal Justice, because he was not a minority. To get experience, he enlisted in the US Army and went to both Afghanistan and Iraq. Once he finished his tour, he reapplied and finally had his dream job - a police officer in the area where he grew up. To be MURDERED in cold blood with his own gun is outrageous, especial if the perp turns out to have come to this country illegally!

My hometown! Poor lost Weymouth, I still pine for thee.

Didn’t know that he had to enlist in order to become a cop AFTER he got his degree... this good man lived his life by the book and did it fearlessly.

So the jury is still out on this guy’s legal status... but I’m not seeing it either way. Libs better pray that the degenerate who killed him isn’t illegal, because this situation does not fit their bs narrative at all — and it has the potential to explode on them: unarmed illegal with past priors kills cop with his own gun?? Unreal.
