One of my long passed uncle's ran the lights in his Minnesota barn using a very large flat coil of copper wire attached to the underside of the barn roof. The local utility condemned his land and put a very big high tension power line practically over the top of his barn. The lights were not 100% bright but they worked fine for what they were. Oh and the wire was “free”, liberated from the utility.
Fluorescent tubes will glow nicely near an RF source.

Your uncle stole the wire from the utility, which passed the cost on to its customers, meaning he actually stole it from the customers.

"Fluorescent tubes will glow nicely near an RF source." Yes we used to check RF transmitters by holding a neon bulb near the high voltage RF output stage. If the bulb glowed, you were good to go. Same thing worked on old TVs to see if the high voltage flyback power supply was working.
Ahhh, those were the days, when you could actually repair stuff.

Should see them light up touching the plate voltage off a tube amplifier then modulate your signal, produces dark bands across the length of the tube

Please PM me and give details on how he set that up. Thanks.
