According to the article it is the “Mexican Mafia” which according to this reporter is over all the Latino gangs there...I was wondering if MS 13 is included as being under the MM.
The name Mexican Mafia is interesting because that is what the organized smuggling groups on the border were known as years ago before the name became cartels. No idea if they are using the name Mexican Mafia in a nostalgic way or if it still exists there.
It most certainly does. The Mexican Mafia (La Eme) is a prison gang that controls the southern California street gangs under the "Sureno" or "Southern" umbrella.
They are still very much a thing and separate but affiliated with Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), which is mostly comprised of foriegners from central and south America. The 13 (M) is a giveaway as to their affiliation with La Eme.
p.s. The Mexican gangs in northern California are called Nortenos and the prison gang that controls them is "Nuestra Familia" or NF. N for Northern. (derogatory: "farmeros" or "farmers" and/or "busters." Call them that and see what happens. Call the surenos "scraps or scrapas" and see what happens.
In Fresno, which is in the middle, we have independent gang bangers called "Bulldogs." They are neither north or south.
